Wāhine Māori experience some of the most severe and persistent inequities across the justice system in Aotearoa and have the highest rates of incarceration. This report brings together and contextualises existing quantitative data on wāhine Māori who experience incarceration. Its purpose is to illuminate the pathways that draw wāhine Māori into the justice system, the structural and institutional conditions that sustain their over-representation.
