Hui 2: Rangatahi, Youth Justice and Early System Contact
How do rangatahi encounter systems, and what helps change the trajectory?
For many rangatahi, contact with the justice system doesn't begin in a courtroom. It often starts much earlier, through experiences in education, care and protection, health services, housing instability, family challenges, or community environments. This hui explores the pathways that lead rangatahi into systems, the opportunities for earlier intervention, and the solutions that are already helping young people thrive.
Centred on the voices of rangatahi and whānau, this conversation brings together lived experience, evidence, and practice to better understand what works, what gets in the way, and how we can support positive pathways before justice system involvement becomes entrenched.
